Liberty Fruit holds ninth annual golf tournament and fund raiser
The Liberty Fruit Co. Inc. in Kansas City held its ninth annual golf tournament Sept. 22.
The tournament is a way for Liberty Fruit Co. to give back to its community. In the eight previous years, all money raised during the tournament was donated to Children's Mercy Hospital for research, diagnosing and treating intestinal problems in children.
But this year, Liberty Fruit Co. added two additional charities to its donation plan.
The Little Sisters of the Poor, which has served the Kansas City community since 1882, was one of the additions. The sisters provide quality living spaces for the elderly and handicapped. The Little Sisters have been receiving generous donations from Liberty Fruit Co. for the past 43 years.
The Armourdale Renewal Association, which serves the Armourdale and Kansas Avenue Industrial District in Kansas City, was the other new addition. The association serves youth, seniors and businesses and is the liaison between the Unified Government and the community. Liberty Fruit Co. is located in the Armourdale neighborhood.
The Little Sisters of the Poor and the Armourdale Renewal Association each received a $17,500 donation, while Children's Mercy Hospital received a $100,000 donation, which brought the nine-year total to $390,000.
