Fitness guru Denise Austin to star in new commercial for Idaho potatoes
The 2008-09 Idaho potato marketing season will be the fifth in which fitness guru Denise Austin will serve as spokesperson for Idaho potatoes. Her activities on behalf of Idaho potatoes for the coming year will include a new television commercial and a satellite media tour, according to Frank Muir, president of the Idaho Potato Commission in Eagle, ID.
For the new commercial, the commission brought Ms. Austin to Idaho and filmed her "interacting with our water, soil and climate," Mr. Muir said. That is what makes Idaho potatoes the world famous potatoes that they are.
Although Ms. Austin has been featured in several commercials for Idaho potatoes in the past, this is the first time we have filmed here in Idaho, Mr. Muir said. Previously, we have always done it in a studio, playing more on her fitness background. We thought now that we have established her well as our spokesperson, let's bring her to Idaho. What is great is she just fits so naturally with the postcard background of Idaho a beautiful spokesperson in a beautiful environment. It just speaks very well to why Idaho is truly a unique place.
Ms. Austin, who has authored 10 books, sold more than 20 million fitness videos and DVDs and hosted highly popular fitness shows on television for 20 years, exudes energy and enthusiasm in communicating the importance of exercise as well as eating a healthy, balanced diet that includes Idaho potatoes.
In her new commercial, she takes ownership of Idaho potatoes as never before. Standing in an Idaho potato field with the majestic Grand Teton Mountains in the background, she says, Some say it is the rich volcanic soil that makes our potatoes so special, pronouncing the word our with emphasis and pride. Or maybe the pure water, she continues. Whatever it is, Idaho potatoes are a delicious part of a healthy diet. Reminding viewers that not all potatoes are grown in Idaho, she encourages them to look for the Grown in Idaho seal and concludes with the catchy phrase, Genuine Idaho potatoes, from the best earth on earth.
We think this will probably be the strongest campaign weve ever run, said Mr. Muir. The 60-second spot, which can be viewed on the commissions website, will run from November through February on CNN, the Weather Channel, the Food Network, Fox News, the Discovery Network and the Fine Living Network.
