FFVA's 65th annual convention to tackle tough, timely issues
Food safety, sustainability and immigration reform will take center stage at the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association's 65th annual convention Sept. 21- 23 at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Naples, FL.
Howard Fineman, senior Washington correspondent and columnist for Newsweek, will be the keynote speaker during the convention's traditional Cracker Breakfast on Sept. 23. Mr. Fineman, one of the nation's leading political reporters and commentators, also is a news analyst on NBC's "Today Show," MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews" and "Countdown with Keith Olbermann." Random House has published his first book, The Thirteen American Arguments.
"Participants come to FFVA's convention knowing that they'll get the timeliest information on the issues that affect them," Lisa Lochridge, FFVA director of public affairs, said in a press release. "There will be plenty of good discussion, especially on food safety, coming on the heels of the Salmonella outbreak investigation."
Issues forums include "Sustainability: Implications for Florida Agriculture," "Food Safety: Is Regulation in Our Future?" and "Immigration: What's Ahead?" Golf tournament participants can experience Tiburon, the championship course designed by Greg Norman. Or attendees can test their skills as an angler in the scenic backwaters of the Ten Thousand Islands area and Everglades National Park. The convention will wrap up with a theme party and an auction to benefit the Redlands Christian Migrant Association.
The event once again takes place at the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, an award- winning beachfront resort. To register, go to www.ffva.com and click on the convention logo or call In the Event at 407/839-8811.
