Registration open for PMA benefit golf tournament
Registration is open for the third annual Produce Marketing Association Education Foundation Golf Tournament, which is a fundraiser for the Nucci Scholarship for Culinary Innovation.
"PMA established the Nucci Scholarship in honor of our brother, Joe," Gina Nucci, director of foodservice marketing for Mann Packing Co. Inc., said in a press release. "It's a great way for Joe's friends and colleagues to get together, have fun and raise money for a great cause."
The event is often referred to as "The Nooch" by close friends and family referencing Mr. Nucci's nickname. Mr. Nucci, who died in July 2005, was the former chief executive officer of Mann Packing and also served as the secretary-treasurer of PMA.
The Nucci Scholarship for Culinary Innovation connects produce and foodservice professionals in order to advance culinary innovation through produce. Proceeds from this year's golf tournament will support scholarships allowing 14 students and four faculty members from the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson & Wales University to attend the PMA Foodservice Conference & Exposition in Monterey, CA.
"This is a truly unique opportunity for future foodservice professionals to experience our industry first-hand and to learn more about building a successful career in foodservice and agriculture," Ms. Nucci added in the release. "I know Joe would be delighted such a worthwhile program has been created in his memory."
The tournament will be held July 25 at the Bayonet & Blackhorse Golf Course in Seaside, CA, just north of Monterey.
