Martori Farms adds to sales team
Scottsdale, AZ-based Martori Farms, a grower-shipper specializing in cantaloupe, watermelons and mixed melons, recently expanded its specialty melon program and added two industry veterans to its sales staff.
Steve Koran joined Martori Farms as director of sales, effective June 1. Prior to Mr. Koran's arrival, Mike Elsen joined the company as a salesman in late April. Mr. Koran comes to Martori Farms from Salinas, CA-based Tanimura & Antle, where he worked for about four years and left as director of Western sales. Prior to T&A, he worked for Salinas-based companies Growers Express as director of sales and Dole Fresh Vegetables as regional sales manager. "He's a very experienced sales veteran, knowledgeable of retail markets," Steve Martori, managing member of Martori Farms, said of Mr. Koran. "We're heavily involved in retail programs. We look forward to him moving us forward in that sector." Mr. Koran will oversee all sales for the company, which includes organic beans and grains. He fills a role that was vacant since February following the departure of Chris Elsie. Mr. Elsen will concentrate on selling organics and melons. Martori Farms' organic sales have climbed from just 1 percent three or four years ago to more than 10 percent, Mr. Martori said. Prior to joining Martori Farms, Mr. Elsen worked for nearly 20 years as a district sales manager for Del Monte Fresh Produce in Arlington Heights, IL, mostly handling its melon deal.
