Habelman Bros. forms marketing pact with The Cranberry Network
Habelman Bros. Co., a leading fresh cranberry grower and packer, has entered into a cranberry sales and marketing agreement with The Cranberry Network LLC, a Wisconsin-based sales and marketing company.
"We are excited to be on our own and entering into this new arrangement with The Cranberry Network," Raymond J. Habelman, vice president of Habelman Bros. Co., said in a press release. "For a number of years, sales within the fresh cranberry category have been flat. However, we are confident that this category can be grown by keeping the best-quality cranberries on the shelf longer. Now is the ideal time to introduce a new approach to how fresh cranberries are taken to market."
Until its resignation from the cooperative last December, Habelman's was Ocean Spray's largest grower-packer of fresh cranberries.
"We have learned a lot from Ocean Spray in the last 50 years, but it's now time to apply our own expertise to supplying fresh cranberries to retailers. We are pleased to be in the process of developing our own label, and we intend to emphasize to the consumer that they will be enjoying the delicious taste and quality of fresh Wisconsin cranberries," said Mr. Habelman.
The Cranberry Network, whose management team has combined cranberry industry experience of over 75 years, currently manages various regional and national cranberry labels, and will add the "Habelman's" label beginning with the 2008 season.
Blake Johnston, a principal of The Cranberry Network with experience in growing, packing and selling fresh cranberries, said in the press release, "The Cranberry Network is privileged to have partnered with Habelman Bros. Our absolute focus is and will continue to be to ensure a long-term supply of the highest-quality fresh cranberries to retail and private-label customers throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons."
