Albert's Organics and Strube strike distribution deal
CHICAGO -- The Organic Trade Association's All Things Organic Conference & Trade Show, held here April 26-29, was a perfect venue for Albert's Organics, a leading U.S. wholesale distributor of organic produce, and Strube Celery & Vegetable Co., the oldest established produce distributor in Chicago, to announce their new partnership that will have Strube distributing Albert's Organics' products throughout the Chicago area.
"Strube is a 95-year-old company with a strong and exemplary reputation in the Midwest," said Scott Dennis, vice president of business development for Albert's Organics' corporate division in Bridgeport, NJ. "It will prove to be an outstanding partner for Albert's. They know the produce industry as well as anyone in the industry, their customer web spreads far and wide, and they have an outstandingly sound reputation."
Chicago and its surrounding regions -- where Strube has a strong presence - - is an area of the country where Albert's wants to increase the exposure of its "Grateful Harvest" brand, according to Mr. Dennis.
"The reaction from customers about our new partnership has been extremely positive," said Chris Fleming, business development and marketing director for Strube. "This is our company's first initiative in the organic market. The logistic advantages and our customer base are perfectly placed for us to represent Albert's organic category. The program was recently launched, and we plan to move ahead aggressively."
Albert's Organics "Grateful Harvest" brand is well known across the United States, and Messrs. Dennis and Fleming agreed that it is one that will be readily accepted throughout Strube's distribution area.
At the All Things Organic show, Albert's had a wide variety of its organic line displayed for visitors to view. It was strongly promoting its new "Grateful Harvest" nut and snack line. Besides a wide variety of nuts, the line includes several trail mix flavors. The 13.5-ounce clamshell packages are conveniently sized for people on the go.
Albert's Organics, the exclusive distributor of "Grateful Harvest" products, has been a pioneer in the organic produce industry since it began in business in 1982. Today, it is one of the country's larger organic fresh food companies, maintaining over 300 seasonal fruits and vegetables and other organic perishables in its distribution centers in California, Colorado, Florida, New Hampshire, Minnesota and New Jersey. Its national and regional produce buying centers are known for creating long-standing, mutually supportive relationships with farmers and distributors.
Strube Celery & Vegetable Co. is the oldest federally licensed wholesale produce company in the Chicago area. Established in 1913 by Fred Strube, it has grown over the years to become a nationally recognized model of a successful wholesale produce business and a good example of a four- generation family business.
Strube's accomplishments include being named the 1996 University of Illinois Chicago's Small Business of the Year, the 1996 Illinois Family Business of the Year, the 1997 Arthur Anderson Small Business of the Year and winning the 1999 Chicago Business Ethics Award.
