Driscoll hires Kevin Murphy as new senior vice president
Watsonville, CA-based Driscoll Strawberry Associates Inc. has hired Kevin Murphy as its senior vice president of supply and operations.
Mr. Murphy's responsibilities include production, logistics and distribution, packaging, nursery, quality assurance and food safety. He replaces Al Rodrigues, who retired from this position.
Mr. Murphy comes to Driscoll from nearby Capurro Farms, where he served for the last two-and-half years as president. He led the family-owned company through a series of transformations that led to a merger of Capurro Farms with Salinas, CA-based Growers Express. Prior to Capurro, Mr. Murphy was with Fresh Express for almost 15 years, where he held various positions that included heading strategic planning, marketing and operations for the company.
"Kevin is an outstanding executive, and we are fortunate to have him as a key member of our leadership team," said Miles Reiter, Driscoll's chairman and chief executive officer. "He brings years of experience in agricultural operations and has a deep understanding of our commitments to growers and customers. Most importantly, Kevin is a leader who embraces our values and our mission to continually delight berry consumers."
Mr. Murphy said that he looks forward to the challenge of "producing great berries" and "delivering them to the market in excellent condition."
Mr. Murphy was born and raised in South Africa. He earned an undergraduate degree in agricultural economics from the University of Natal and an MBA from the Edinburgh Business School at Heriot Watts University in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is married with two teen-aged children and lives in Monterey, CA. His hobbies include sailing, squash and golf.
