Sy Katz Produce moves into new administrative offices
Sy Katz Produce Inc. has moved its sales and administrative departments into new offices in Boone, NC.
Sy Katz founded the company in the early 1940s; in 1984, Owen Margolis took over ownership. Although the firm is a substantial force in the Florida fresh produce market, it maintains its headquarters in Boone.
?My home is in North Carolina," said Mr. Margolis. "And we have maintained offices here for the past several years. At the beginning of April, we moved our administrative and sales offices into new headquarters, also in Boone. Our goal is to streamline our operation, eliminate duplicities and at the same time bring the corporate functions closer to our home base. It's all about becoming more lean and mean. This will help us to continue our future strategies of increasing our efficiencies even higher for our customers, business associates and ourselves."
The company handles a full line of mixed dry vegetables, including beans, summer and winter squash, eggplant, bell peppers, hot peppers, cucumbers and corn. It also handles some tomatoes and imports fresh vegetables for domestic sale. Mr. Margolis said that the key to the company?s continued success lies in customer relations and understanding.
?We know and understand our demographics," he said. "We listen to our customers and we get feedback from them. We also listen closely to the feedback from trade organizations, and we consistently seek out new items with which to service our customers. That, in turn, helps them to stay on top of current market trends so they can better service their customers."
Besides its Boone office, Sy Katz Produce has regional winter offices in Pompano Beach, FL, and Nogales, AZ. Seasonally, it maintains offices in southern Georgia, eastern North Carolina and southwest Michigan.
Regarding spring weather affecting Florida?s crops this season, Mr. Margolis said that weather issues exist in every growing area, and things always have a way of working out over time.
?It is spring in Florida, and that commonly means some rain," he said. "Every growing region in the world has some weather issues to deal with and on a wide range of levels. Overall, Florida is having a good growing season this year, and I have every reason to expect that we will see a decent crop."
Besides Florida, Sy Katz Produce ships its wide variety of fresh commodities throughout the United States and into Canada on a year-round basis.
?We have been involved in providing the industry with a full line of quality products for a long time," said Mr. Margolis.
