Several executive-level personnel gone from Tanimura & Antle
A shakeup has occurred at Spreckels, CA-based Tanimura & Antle Inc. According to published reports, President Ken Silveira, Vice President Of Sales & Marketing Rick Bravo and Vice President Of Crop Management Rick Russo all are no longer with the company.
In addition, it has been reported that Bob Antle, a part owner of T&A, has stepped in as sales manager. The report also said that John Killeen, vice president of marketing and business development, and Steve Koran, director of western sales, still are with the company.
Chief Executive Officer Rick Antle spoke with The Produce News Monday, March 10, but would not confirm specific company personnel changes, saying that the company has a policy that respects employees' privacy. However, he did confirm that there have been changes that involve senior employees of the company.
Mr. Antle did read a prepared statement: "With the current economic outlook in the country and less-than-expected demand for our vegetable products over the past 90 days that are indicative that the current situation will not correct itself short of an event that interrupts supply, we're right-sizing the company for the current economic situation facing the Salinas Valley."
In February, T&A company officials said they planned to stop selling lettuce to salad processors in May. Mr. Antle told The Produce News that the company's decision to cut back on its spring planting in California by 5-10 percent was a "mid-year correction."
According to the T&A web site, Mr. Silveira joined the company in 1989 as a financial analyst and later became vice president of operations for T&A's "Salad Time" line of products. He later was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer before being promoted to president in 2003.
