David Warsh named UPGA board vice chairman
Dave Warsh, owner of Warsh Farm in Center, CO, has been named vice chairman of the United Potato Growers of America board of directors. Mr. Warsh, a first-generation farmer, came to Colorado from Waukesha, WI, and has been farming for 25 years.
He brings a wealth of experience in the potato industry to the table. Mr. Warsh is a founding director of United Potato Growers of America, and he served for two years as secretary-treasurer of the organization.
In addition to his current duties with UPGA, Mr. Warsh also serves as president of the United Fresh Potato Growers of Colorado, and was a founder of the United cooperative in Colorado's San Luis Valley.
As an industry leader, Mr. Warsh has also served the National Potato Council in the capacities of president, vice president of grower public relations and vice president of government affairs. He also served on the council's environmental affairs committee. In 1999, Mr. Warsh received NPC's Industry Award, and he was the 2007 President's Award recipient.
In Colorado, Mr. Warsh has served two terms on the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee.
Industry peers had nothing but praise for Mr. Warsh. "He's a leader," said Dwight Freeman, chief executive officer of the United Fresh Potato Growers of Colorado in Monte Vista. "I don't know if it's developed or natural born. But he has a good grip on the situation."
CPAC Executive Director Jim Ehrlich agreed. "I think United made a very good choice in Dave Warsh," he told The Produce News. "He is an excellent leader, and he'll do a good job for the organization."
Mr. Warsh and his wife, Linda, have been married for 20 years and have two daughters and one son. He has been a volunteer with Ducks Unlimited for 20 years and previously served as chairman of the San Luis Valley chapter.
