Steffanie Smith takes seat as River Point Farms CEO
Steffanie Smith has taken the reins at River Point Farms in Hermiston, OR, as its new chief executive officer. She assumed her new responsibilities the week of Nov. 5.
River Point Farms is among America's larger onion producers, and Ms. Smith said, "I look forward to bringing a new perspective to the company while preserving the integrity of the already-established business."
"The board of directors and executive management team are elated to welcome Steffanie to River Point Farms," said Mike Rawlings, board chairman. "Her knowledge base and wealth of experience will be an asset as we expand the business and further existing relationships with key customers in the United States."
Ms. Smith brings diverse industry experience to the position. Initially, she worked for the United Fresh Produce Association in Washington, DC. She eventually relocated to Salinas, CA, and worked to develop markets for the bagged salad industry. Prior to joining River Point Farms, Ms. Smith served as president of Pacific Pre-Cut Produce for 10 years. Taylor Farms, one of the larger foodservice suppliers of fresh-cut vegetables, eventually acquired the company. In 2005, she became president of Taylor Farms' Deli-Prepared Foods Division.
Ms. Smith told The Produce News, "I am absolutely very excited about this great opportunity [with River Point Farms]. They've got a great program in place." A native of Othello, WA, Ms. Smith added, "I am from the area, and it's good to be back."
