Kenfield joins HMC but continues as SunFed adviser
Steve Kenfield, who joined SunFed in Nogales, AZ, as vice president of sales and marketing about a year ago and who was quickly promoted to president, has now returned to California's San Joaquin Valley and accepted employment at The HMC Group Marketing in Kingsburg, CA. Before going to SunFed, he had been president of Ripe 'N Ready in Parlier, CA, for several years. Previously he was president of Kings Canyon-Corrin LLC in Reedley, CA.
Amy Adams, newly named vice president of sales and marketing at SunFed, told The Produce News Nov. 9, on authorization of Danny Mandel, SunFed's chief executive officer, that Mr. Kenfield would be continuing his association with SunFed in two capacities: as an adviser to the company and as a member of its board of directors.
"Today is actually my first day at HMC," Mr. Kenfield told The Produce News Nov. 13. "I am looking forward to working with [owner] Harold McClarty and helping him grow the business here."
The decision to return to the San Joaquin Valley was "more personal than it was professional," he said. "I've got a great respect for Danny Mandel and his company, and I see great potential for them."
Also, "I have tremendous respect" for HMC and for Harold McClarty, whom Mr. Kenfield said he has known for many years.
While he enjoyed southern Arizona, Mr. Kenfield is glad to be back in the valley. He and his family "have been in the area now for 17 years, so we've got a lot of friends, and we are excited to be back."
He did not specify what his title will be at HMC, but said that he will be involved in "marketing and business development" and that his responsibilities will be "generally to help grow the company."
He said that he will "pay a lot of attention to the foodservice side of the business" as well as some value-added projects "that the company has got going," and he will also "certainly help on the tree fruit side."
Among other things, Mr. Kenfield said, he will be involved with the "Lunch Bunch" grape program at HMC, a program with which he was previously involved in earlier years at Corrin Produce. He will also be involved in some other programs with which he has had previous involvement over the last 15-17 years.
