Rainier employees participate in the largest running relay race in the world
When a few employees of Selah, WA-based Rainier Fruit Co. and some of their family and friends looked for ways to improve their fitness level in a team- building environment, they looked for something fun and challenging.
They chose the Hood to Coast Relay, which spans 197 miles from the top of Oregon's Mount Hood down to the Pacific Ocean in Seaside, OR. The 13 members of the Rainier team joined over 12,000 other runners in a 30-hour non-stop odyssey to the coast. Billed as the largest running relay race in the world, teams from around the world came to participate in an event that raised over $200,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The Rainier team included employees Scott Pryse, Dennis Stevenson, Sam Gaenz, Scott Blackledge, David Armenta, Troy Howard, Suzanne Wolter and Gary Hudson. Joining the Rainier team in the race were spouses Greg Wolter, Stephanie Howard and Shirley Pryse, as well as Jamie Brault, daughter of the company's director of human resources, and produce veteran Dan Vach? from Sensitech.
"We completed the relay in 27:47:03," Ms. Wolter, director of marketing, said in a press release. "Everyone did a great job surpassing their expected race pace times and came away with a real appreciation for their fellow employees. All agree it's an excellent opportunity to get to know individuals from other departments away from the work environment. The months of training and talking about the race created an exercise and healthy eating infection now running rampant throughout our facility."
