Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers now offering two-pound easy punnet pack for stone fruit
The Washington stone fruit season is off to strong start, and Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers' new two-pound easy punnet packaging is proving to be a hit with consumers.
"We are really excited about the new package and the impact it is having at the store level," Scott Marboe, marketing director of the Wenatchee, WA- based firm said in early July. "Our vendor partners were asking for a way that we could maximize the impulse sale of stone fruits for today's shopper, and this consumer package, which is 100 percent environmentally friendly, has met that need. It has worked better than anticipated in the limited areas in which we have placed it."
Apricots were the first item marketed in the package, followed by nectarines, peaches, Pluots, plums and prunes in the high-graphic, full-color container. Point-of-sale materials as well as the new "More Matters" logo are all helping drive early sales, Mr. Marboe said.
"During the recent Fourth of July holiday, we had several store groups see a huge increase in apricot sales over previous years due to the convenient 'grab-and-go' package style," he added.
