T&A makes commitment to biodiesel
During a ribbon cutting in Soledad, CA, Salinas Valley produce company Tanimura & Antle formally announced that it has taken action to reduce its carbon footprint by fueling its tractors with biodiesel. The Salinas Valley- based grower and shipper accepted its first delivery of 8,000 gallons of B20 (20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent diesel) fuel in May of this year, and it anticipates offsetting 125,000 gallons of traditional diesel fuel with biodiesel by the end of 2007.
"We decided to paint the tractors running on biodiesel 'clean sky blue' to symbolize the reduction in net carbon dioxide emissions, sulfites and hydrocarbons that biodiesel is able to provide," Rick Antle, chief executive officer of Tanimura & Antle, said in a press release. The introduction of these easy-to-recognize biodiesel tractors to Tanimura & Antle is just part of our continuing efforts to further our commitment to the environment and to respond to the consumers growing demand for more sustainable agriculture.
As T&A prepared for this milestone in company history, Mr. Antle said in the release, This is a symbolic day, as we plan on extending biodiesel to all other areas of our conventional farming business.
Tanimura & Antle is known for its aggressive water conservation, minimal use of pesticides, responsible waste management, efficient energy use and the protection of soil fertility. In addition, T&A is committed to continuous improvement, and is always looking for methods in which to improve sustainable agricultural practices.
