Margaret D'Arrigo-Martin is Woman of the Year for Ag Against Hunger
Margaret D'Arrigo-Martin, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Salinas, CA-based family business D'Arrigo Bros. Co. of California, has been named Ag Against Hunger's Ag Woman of the Year for 2007.
The award recognizes a woman who has contributed significantly to the success of the tri-county -- Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties -- agricultural industry. This year's 13th annual Ag Woman of the Year luncheon was held June 6 at Paraiso Vineyards in Soledad, CA.
Ag Against Hunger is a non-profit agency providing donated fresh produce to food banks in the tri-county area of Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties, then statewide and out-of-state when the fresh produce needs of local food banks are satisfied. The Ag Woman of the Year award is a surprise to all guests including the honoree. The award seeks to honor unique leadership qualities held by women working within the tri-county agricultural industry.
On a local level, Ms. D'Arrigo-Martin is or has been involved in numerous organizations, often taking an active public role. Those organizations include United Way of Monterey County, Healthy Eating Lifestyle Principles for Agriculture in Monterey County, Children's Hospice & Palliative Care Coalition, Salinas Rotary Club, Produce for Better Health Foundation, Hide n' Seek Children's Foundation, YMCA of Monterey County, Hartnell Community College, Kinship Center for Adoption & Foster Care and the Salinas Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. D'Arrigo-Martin's involvement in national organizations past and present includes the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association Leadership Program, the California Agricultural Leadership Program, First Candle/SIDS Alliance and the Produce Marketing Association.
