Harvest Sensations to distribute Frog Hollow Farm products
Los Angeles-based Harvest Sensations and Brentwood, CA-based Frog Hollow Farm have entered into a national distribution agreement for all of Frog Hollow's fresh fruit and value-added fruit products, including purees, individually quick-frozen fruit slices and conserves.
Frog Hollow Farm grows multiple varieties of stone fruit including peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, pluots and cherries.
Harvest Sensations will distribute Frog Hollow products through its 36- member Pro*Act network and through Harvest Sensations Direct, an overnight service available to chefs across the United States. Harvest Sensations also distributes through other specialty produce wholesalers.
Harvest Sensations' distribution network includes 68 cities and covers about 95 percent of the country. In addition, Harvest Sensations has two main loading points: Los Angeles and Miami.
Frog Hollow Farm is considered by many chefs to be the best in artisan organic fruit farming, said Dean Simon, president of Harvest Sensations. He sees the Frog Hollow relationship as a logical extension of the company's "chefs shopping for chefs" approach.
Frog Hollow is "one of the finest stone fruit growers," and its products are "center-of-the-plate leading items," Mr. Simon said. The partnership is an opportunity for Harvest Sensations to offer the foodservice and retail communities some of the best fruit grown in America, Mr. Simon said.
To date, Frog Hollow products have sold primarily to high-end retailers and at farmers markets. Mr. Simon said that Frog Hollow has enough volume of product to distribute nationally.
"[Frog Hollow's] claim to fame is stone fruit and cherries," Mr. Simon said. "Their Asian pears are phenomenal." He added that Frog Hollow "almost has a cult following."
Frog Hollow's harvest schedule begins May 21 with three varieties of cherries and runs through August or later with its peaches and nectarines. In addition, Harvest Sensations will offer Frog Hollow frozen fruit purees made with nothing but fruit, ready-to-serve frozen fruit slices and conserves.
