Agrofresh's Davis facility to focus on research
SPRING HOUSE, PA -- AgroFresh Inc. has unveiled its new research laboratory in Davis, CA, holding an open house at its new facility located minutes from the University of California campus there.
According to AgroFresh, the new laboratory was established to support core research and development needs of the company, which specializes in quality management systems through its expertise and understanding of ethylene management for the horticultural and agronomic crop industries.
AgroFresh's new facility is located within driving distance of the major fruit, vegetable, nut and ornamental growing areas in the state, which is the country's largest agricultural producer.
UC-Davis also houses the nation's largest agricultural research program, with cutting-edge researchers, a world-class agricultural library and a supply of trained student and graduate personnel, offering synergies for AgroFresh.
"AgroFresh is committed to being a global leader in quality management systems, such as our 'SmartFresh' Quality System that maintains quality by protecting apples and other fruits from the negative effects of ethylene, and our new Invinsa technology, which protects the yield for agronomic crops from ethylene-induced stress during periods of high heat and drought," AgroFresh President John Buckley said in a March 14 statement. "This new facility in Davis is vital to the ongoing research and development we need to maintain and advance our leadership position."
He added, "We are very pleased to establish a West Coast base to be near our customers and to work to meet our future research needs." He also noted that while located in Davis, the lab is intended to be a resource for the entire company on a global scale.
The facility is equipped with produce quality measurement and analytical instrumentation, three cold rooms, a conference room and office space. The facility is directed by Deirdre Holcroft and managed by Francine Dickie. The lab also houses technician Gisselle Argueta Baires and Horticultural Marketing Manager Sri Pfuntner.
