Welcome Sauer to lead global horticulture business at AgroFresh
Welcome Sauer has been named to lead AgroFresh Inc.'s growing worldwide horticultural business, the company announced Feb. 12.
AgroFresh's new global vice president for horticultural products is charged with growing the company's business by leveraging its expertise in ethylene management and related quality-management systems for fruits, vegetables and flowers. Mr. Sauer's responsibilities include managing AgroFresh's business for the SmartFresh Quality System, which helps growers deliver their superior-quality apples and other fruits and vegetables to consumers by maintaining quality and protecting these foods against the negative effects of ethylene.
He also will expand the SmartFresh Quality System business into new markets around the world and to additional horticultural crops as well as lead the company's commercialization of new preharvest quality management technologies now in development.
Mr. Sauer will be based in his home state of Washington in close proximity to many of the nation's leading horticultural producers.
Prior to joining AgroFresh, Mr. Sauer worked as a management consultant on a variety of projects in the produce industry, including the launch of Chelan Fresh Marketing and as an advisor to Gebbers Farms, a major apple and cherry producer. He is the former president and chief executive officer, and new business development director, for the Washington Apple Commission, where he championed fresh-cut apples and the promotion of new apple varieties. He is a 10-year management veteran of the Dole Food Co., where he worked in business development on apples and fresh-cut vegetables.
