April 24-30 is Administrative Professionals Week
Administrative Professionals Week is a time to recognize support staff for their contributions to the success of any business. Formerly known as Secretaries Week, the last full week of April is celebrated worldwide as a way to formally reinforce the value of administrative professionals.
“It is a significant holiday,” Liane Mast, marketing and floral director at Stater Bros. in California, told The Produce News. “It’s close to Mother’s Day, so it gets a good sell through and it’s a warm-up for Mother’s Day.
“We do a number of different things for the holiday,” Mast said. “We do special bouquets, arrangements and balloons. We also have special potted items — usually upgraded things that would look good on a desk.”
Research from Texas A&M University demonstrates that flowers and plants will naturally lift an employee’s mood, create a lasting memory, and boost productivity. The research demonstrates that flowers and plants also enhance peoples’ ability to generate ideas and solve problems.
According to the Society of American Florists’ 2013 APW Member Survey Results, most orders and most deliveries take place on Wednesday, which is recognized as Administrative Professionals Day. With an average transaction amount of $40.54, 78 percent of sales were cut flowers, 13 percent flowering plants and 13 percent green plants.
