Red Sun Farms reaping great success with greenhouse organics
Red Sun Farms entered the greenhouse organics category when it cut the ribbon at its Dublin, VA, facility in late 2014.
Today, the company, a major grower and distributor of high-quality greenhouse vegetables, is growing organics at all of its facilities, which includes its facilities in Mexico and its headquarters in Kingsville, Ontario.
Red Sun Farms’ 10-ounce organic grape tomatoes in an organic fiber base.“The organics line continues to grow at a rapid speed,” said Jim DiMenna, president of Red Sun Farms. “To keep up with demand we are continually expanding our acreage in all of our growing areas. And we have further expanded our organic series. In addition to organic tomatoes-on-the-vine and grape tomatoes we now also have organic bell peppers.”
The growing company was also in need of more administrative space to house its ever-increasing staff. Its Canadian facility expansion is due for completion this spring.
DiMenna pointed out that it makes a huge difference when a company such as Red Sun Farms oversees every step of production and shipping.
“Our claim to fame is that we control every aspect of our production because we grow on our own farms,” said DiMenna. “From seed development and selection, overseeing the farming process, marketing, packaging — and in sustainable materials — and shipping, we follow our products all the way to the receiver. We also reach out directly to consumers with social media venues and a website that explains all about our operation and provides handling tips and recipes.”
He added that evidence of the success of these endeavours is obvious in the increased retail demand, which is spurred by consumer interest.
DiMenna will be joined at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association’s Annual Convention & Trade Show in Calgary on April 12-14 by several key team members. The company will exhibit at booth No. 529.
“We look forward to visiting with our Canadian customers and prospective customers,” said DiMenna. “With organics growing at a rapid speed, we welcome the opportunity to feature this category along with our conventional line.”
“The CPMA expo offers a great networking opportunity, new relationship building and a chance to showcase our services and products to the Canadian audience,” he added.
