W.P. Produce filling marketplace niche with tropicals, nontropicals
W.P. Produce Corp. has been moving a full line of exotic and tropical produce from its operations in Miami since 1984. The company was created by Founder and Chief Executive Officer Willy Pardo and his daughter, Desiree Morales, who serves as vice president. The company’s commodity manifest includes a broad list of tropical fruits and roots. W.P. Produce has partnerships in place with Florida producers of boniato, Florida avocados, guava and mamey.
Willy Pardo began selling tropicals from the back seat of his truck to neighbors who were looking for commodities they used regularly, but could not be found in local supermarkets. By filling this niche, W.P. Produce was able to expand into a leader in the field.
In fact, several years ago, the company opened a wholesale location on the Miami Produce Market, known as the Fresh Depot Outlet, where chainstores, restaurants and independent markets can take advantage of the one-stop-shopping atmosphere to buy items such as Bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce, garlic and limes.
Commodities are marketed under the recognized DESBRY brand.
The company continues to specialize in green-skinned avocados from the Dominican Republic, and consumer demand continues to grow. This deal typically runs through the middle of April.
W.P. Produce’s Haitian mango season is just around the corner, and movement usually runs through July.
The company works diligently with its focus on food safety, ensuring that the highest possible field standards are met.
