Merger expands marketplace penetration for Unity Groves Corp.
It has been nearly a year since Unity Groves Corp., headquartered in Homestead, FL, acquired Fresh King Inc. Although the business transaction was considered a merger, both companies are continuing to promote their respective marketplace brands. Both companies enjoyed a prominent presence on Florida’s landscape for the growing and distribution of avocados and other tropicals.
Fresh King was one of Florida’s larger avocado packinghouses, and the acquisition included both facilities and growing acreage.
Commodities moved include longans, starfruit, lychee and guava.
Additionally, Fresh King imported sno peas, Ugli fruit, limes, dry coconuts and sugar snap peas as part of its commodity lineup.
As the merger was finalized, Unity Groves began implementing facilities expansions designed to enhance packing and cold stage capability. Construction began on a new building essentially doubling this capacity. A second avocado packingline was added, complete with new packing equipment.
