Ecoripe Tropicals seeing rise in quality tropical produce
According to Marc Holbik, vice president of business development for Medley, FL-based Ecoripe Tropicals, the availability and quality of tropical fruits for the U.S. market is continuing to see major improvements and increases.
“We are definitely seeing more specialty and exotic items becoming commonplace in North America,” said Holbik. “Our goal at Ecoripe Tropicals is to make these exiting tropical fruits more accessible to the industry and to the final consumer.”
According to Marc Holbik, vice president of business development for Ecoripe Tropicals, the availability and quality of tropical fruits for the U.S. market is continuing to grow.Ecoripe Tropicals is a leading importer and distributor of a full line of domestic and imported high-quality tropical fruits and vegetables. Its farming operations and partnerships are spread throughout the Americas.
“Current Florida-grown tropical fruits in our line are pink and Thai guava, mamey, sapodilla, longan, canistel, passionfruit, caimito, June plum and sugar cane,” said Holbik. “Our peak season of carambolas has winded down, so there are limited quantities until July. In a couple of months we are looking forward to the start of the dragonfruit and lychee seasons.”
On the import side, Ecoripe’s rambutan season is scheduled to begin in April, with promotional volumes available from May to November.
“The start of the season is slightly delayed due to the El Niño weather patterns, but volumes will still be strong,” said Holbik.
Other imported tropical fruits on Ecoripe Tropicals’ lineup include breadfruit, dry coconuts, papayas, mangos, soursop, sweet tamarinds and quenepas. The company’s vividly colorful website, www.ecoripe.com, provides the full scope of its tropical line of products and company information.
“We also have a year-round pineapple program from Costa Rica,” said Holbik. “It includes pineapples sold under the Joselyn’s premium label, which has been very successful in the south Florida market.”
