Southern Specialties perfectly aligned for a great spring season
If groundhog predictions this year are accurate, we’re in for an early spring. And with that comes the reminder that spring holidays are just around the corner.
Southern Specialties is perfectly aligned to offer some of the most highly sought-after spring produce.
“We see good demand for our sugar snap peas, sno peas, french beans and baby carrots from Guatemala,” Charlie Eagle, vice president of business development for the Pompano Beach, FL-based company. “And we love white asparagus from Peru. It’s an exciting addition to Easter menus.”
From seed selection to logistics management, Southern Specialties supplies fresh specialty produce to foodservice suppliers and retail stores across North America. The company, celebrating 25 years in business this year, is a leading grower, importer, processor, marketer and distributor of high-quality specialty produce items.
Sustainability has been part of Southern Specialties’ framework since it was founded. Providing for healthy, educated workers and the wise use of natural resources remains an important facet of the company’s corporate responsibility. The proper stewardship of its farmlands assures it has the least impact on the environment.
And the company supports local communities. Its assistance provides direct benefits to local school systems, helps bring in more doctors and dentists and boosts the growth of healthy team activities like children’s intramural soccer.
Eagle noted that the company also continues to see increasing demand for its Southern Selects value-added line.
“Consumers are looking for convenience, variety, nutrition and flavor across the board,” he pointed out. “And millennials continue to be a large part of this trend.”
Southern Specialties’ representatives enjoyed a wonderful time at the Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Exposure event on March 3-5 in Hollywood, FL.
“The event was in our own backyard,” said Eagle. “This gave us the opportunity to host several groups of customers on tours of our facility. It also enabled them to spend time with those folks on our team with whom they speak by phone on a regular basis but rarely, if ever, have a chance to meet face-to-face.”
