Crown Jewels returning to summer melon deal
Crown Jewels Produce Co. LLC is resuming its summer melon deal after sitting out last season’s crop.
Company principals Rob Mathias, president, and Atomic Torosian have been involved with cantaloupe and honeydew sales for their entire careers, and both are excited to be back in the West Side summer melon deal, which will kick off in early July.
Working with S&S Ranch, Crown Jewels will market approximately 2 million boxes of cantaloupes and a half-million boxes of honeydews under the Crown Jewels label. Martin Ramos, senior manager of quality assurance at Crown Jewels, will oversee daily operations.
This year’s summer melon deal in California will help fill the gaps for year-round melon supplies in concert with production from Mexico in the spring and fall.
“Crown Jewels is already known for shipping Mexican vegetables, and with the new melon deal it keeps us balanced with our grapes, pears, apples and pomegranate grower programs,” Mathias said in a press release.
