Del Campo rolls out organic line
Tomato and red Bell pepper volumes are increasing for Del Campo Supreme Inc. Jimmy Munguia, the firm’s sales manager, said Jan. 19, “We’re a little behind last year’s volume. But it’s steadily increasing.
“We had a lot of product in the last month” and with Mexico’s weather warming into the 70s and 80s, volumes were expected to increase.
“Things have been good since June,” Munguia said. “The market has been favorable. The red Bell market has been good for at least nine months.”
Del Campo grows, packs and ships red and yellow grape tomatoes, Romas, Beefsteak, tomatoes-on-vine, cocktail and vine ripe tomatoes, red and yellow Bell peppers and mini-bell peppers.
Munguia said that Del Campo’s Nogales facility has recently completed a “very successful” installation of warehouse roof and parking solar paneling.
Del Campo is now rolling out a small, preliminary organic line involving eggplant and several tomato varieties: Roma, round and grape.
The organics will, like all else shipped by the firm, be labeled with the Del Campo brand.
All of these products, except for tomatoes-on-vine, are shipped 12 months a year.
