Kurt Zuhlke & Associates staying on trend with earth-friendly packaging
When Kurt Zuhlke Jr. joined Kurt Zuhlke & Associates in Bangor, PA, he brought earth- friendly ideas to the company that his father, Kurt Zuhlke Sr., founded going on 60 years ago.
As the produce industry began to change with the times, so did the company. Those changes included meeting the new needs of consumers, retailers, repackers and suppliers, and the development of www.ProducePackaging.com.
Kurt Zuhlke, president of Kurt Zuhlke & Associates, with daughter Angela at the recent Southeast Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference.“Today we are a widely diversified company,” Zuhlke, who now serves as company president, told The Produce News. “We’re totally dedicated to earth-friendly packaging, and we service all sectors of the produce industry — from growers to retailers — with PET packaging.”
Packaging materials made of polyethylene terephthalate, commonly called PET or PETE, can be recycled to reuse the material out of which they are made. This, in turn, reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfills.
“In addition to doing our part for the environment, our packaging is designed to protect produce while providing excellent visibility to the consumer, reducing shrink and enhancing the product,” Zuhlke said. “We also offer professional labeling design and application for most of our products.”
Kurt Zuhlke & Associates’ packaging line includes bubbles, clamshells, herb packs, insert liners, trays, soaker pads, utility packs and corrugated master cartons, all in a wide assortment of sizes, shapes and even compartmentalized packs.
“Growers and suppliers use our packaging products to pack according to their customers’ specifications, but many retailers today repack at the store level in order to customize their offerings,” added Zuhlke. “That means that all levels of the industry are important to us. And ‘Keeping it Green’ is our mantra.”
