SAF Congressional Action Days March 14-15
This year’s Society of American Florists’ Congressional Action Days are scheduled to take place March 14-15 in Washington, DC, and will offer floriculture professionals the opportunity to meet with lawmakers and to discuss issues that are critical to the future of floriculture, according to a news release.
“It’s important for industry members on all levels of the floriculture supply chain, including breeders, product manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers, growers, garden center retailers, and florists to attend events like Congressional Action Days,” said Laura Drotleff, editor at Greenhouse Grower magazine, in the release. “We can’t expect to make lasting change if we don’t all get involved, work together, and tell our lawmakers what is important to our industry and why. They’re there to help us, but we have to communicate with them so they can.”
The event will start March 14 with issues and advocacy training. SAF lobbyists will explain key issue talking points and attendees will also get a hands-on lesson in effective communication from a professional lobbyist trainer.
On March 15, congressional appointments are on the docket. Wearing a flower in honor of the industry, you’ll have a chance to visit congressional offices as part of your state or regional delegation. You will talk about what’s important to your business, expand awareness of the floriculture industry, and build support for critical issues.
“Talking to lawmakers isn’t just a right, it’s a responsibility,” said SAF president Martin Meskers in the release. “It’s what we have to do on behalf of those who depend upon our business — family, employees, partners, and customers.”
