Food Lion turns Panthers' Super Bowl berth into victory for those in need
Food Lion Feeds will donate 49,000 meals to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in honor of the Carolina Panthers scoring 49 points in the National Football League's NFC championship game in Charlotte, NC, resulting in the team heading to Super Bowl 50. The company is donating 1,000 meals for each point scored during the game.
"We are so excited about their big win and upcoming trip to the big game," Christy Phillips-Brown, Food Lion's director of external communications and community relations, said in a press release. "We thought this was a great way to honor our hometown team since hunger-relief is a cause we support together in Charlotte."
Through Food Lion Feeds, the company has committed to provide 500 million meals to individuals and families in need by the end of 2020. Since the launch of Food Lion Feeds in 2014, the grocer has partnered with Charlotte teams on hunger-relief donations through organization such as Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
