Westmoreland ramps up offerings of U.S.-grown produce
Westmoreland Sales, based in Leamington, ON, is now offering U.S.-grown seedless cucumbers from Pennsylvania and will soon offer tomatoes-on-the-vine from greenhouses in New York. Both items will be marketed under the TopLine Farms label.
According to the company, the U.S.-grown cucumbers complement its current production and give retailers on the East Coast the opportunity to take advantage of the locally grown trend. The company will look to offer U.S.-grown cucumbers on a year-round basis.
With its existing production in Canada and Mexico, the new U.S. production gives the company a full North American presence.
“Demand in the United States is strong on cucumbers, and we feel there is still strong growth potential on seedless cucumbers,” the company said in a press release.
The U.S. carton will be very similar to Westmoreland’s existing look but will be emblazoned with a Grown in the USA stamp.
Similar to its seedless cucumbers, Westmoreland plans to capitalize on the local trend with its tomatoes-on-the-vine. The company’s U.S. tomato-on-the-vine program will run from March through November with production from its greenhouses in New York. Product quality will be the same as its offerings from Canada and Mexico, with the exception of the Grown in the USA stamp on cartons.
