Wisconsin potato group promoting Harley in retail contest
Early campaign work is under way by the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association to give away its 2015 Fat Bob Harley-Davidson in October 2016. This October will be the association’s “Wisconsin Potatopalooza month,” according to Dana Rady, director of promotion, communication and consumer education. The association is headquartered in Antigo, WI.
“Although the giveaway is several months away, the process is beginning now,” Rady indicated in an email to The Produce News. “We are encouraging retail stores to begin designing a display promoting Wisconsin potatoes. The winner will be awarded the Harley-Davidson, which will also promote Wisconsin potatoes, to utilize on in-store promotions or to give away to a charity organization.”
She added, “Our Healthy Grown bins and ‘Kwik Lok’ brand tags are also continuing in retail stores along with various Spudmobile visits to community events in the area.”
Asked to comment on the movement of the Wisconsin potato crop, Rady said, “Wisconsin has an incredible crop this year, with above-average yields and quality. Given the high yields, growers and marketers have been working diligently to ship potatoes. Overall across the season, demand could be a little better, but Wisconsin is holding its own quite nicely.”
Rady said her association will have its “budget planning meeting in March, so there are likely to be additional updates after that” on more 2016 Wisconsin potato promotions.
