LaGrasso Bros. sees positive change in Detroit, looks forward to year ahead
Joe A. LaGrasso, fleet manager and purchasing for Detroit-based LaGrasso Bros., said he’s seen a positive change in the atmosphere of the city since it officially emerged from bankruptcy a little over a year ago.
“We are seeing more restaurants opening their doors in locations throughout the city, which creates new opportunities for startup companies to take root in Detroit,” he told The Produce News in early January.
The positive atmosphere has also helped boost business for LaGrasso Bros. “Business has been improving in our market over the past few years,” he added. “We are looking forward to matching the growth of the city as it develops and flourishes.”
LaGrasso Bros. is a family-run company, currently owned and operated by third- and fourth-generation family members. The 110-employee company prides itself on delivering the freshest, high-quality products to its clients, including The Capital Grille, Fleming’s Steakhouse, J. Alexander’s, Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse, Mezzevino and The Cheesecake Factory.
LaGrasso Bros. delivers produce from the Upper Peninsula to Sandusky, OH, and everywhere in between, including the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, LaGrasso said he is excited to travel to the Produce Marketing Association Foodservice Conference in California, and that he hopes to meet many growers and shippers from around the country while he is there.
But of course, the best thing about his job, LaGrasso noted, is that he gets to work with his family. “The thing that I enjoy most about work is that I get to spend time with my brother and sister, day in and day out,” he said. “I couldn’t imagine working with anyone else.”
