Apple committee leader positive about season
Michigan fresh apple movement for the 2015-16 crop “has been great,” according to Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee.
Diane Smith“We are in line with where we were last year at this time,” she told The Produce News on Dec. 16. “Many industry folks are saying this year’s crop is in great shape going forward, and we’re feeling really positive about that.”
The promotions of the Lansing-based Michigan Apple Committee “are going well. We won’t have the results from our fall work until early spring but initial outcomes are looking good. We are counting more followers and increased consumer engagement.”
Overall, she said movement of the 2015-16 crop “is going very well, the crop is just above our average crop size, as it was last year. Quality and size are good, and we are hearing a lot of great things from retailers and consumers.”
