Westerlay Orchids donates $28,000 to Santa Barbara Breast Cancer Resource Center
Carpinteria, CA-based Westerlay Orchids, announced in a news release that it donated $28,000 to the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara as part of its nationwide Pink Diamond Orchid promotion in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A portion of all sales from Westerlay’s new Gemstone Orchid — the Pink Diamond — sold during October will help the local community resource center and its patients.
Toine Overgaag, owner at Westerlay Orchids in Carpinteria, CA, holding his daughter Renee, presents the company’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month donation to Pam Truax, director of programs, and Silvana R. Kelly, executive director, at the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara, alongside Toine’s wife, Kandie Overgaag.“We are tremendously grateful to have received such a significant donation,” said Silvana Kelly, executive director at the Breast Cancer Resource Center, in the release. “We are forever grateful to be able to provide needed services to women in our community because of Westerlay Orchid’s generous support.”
The company has donated to other charities in past Octobers, including sponsoring no-cost mammograms for low-income women in 2014.
“Besides being surrounded by gorgeous orchids every day, this is one of the best parts of my job,” Nicole Andreasen, sales manager at Westerlay Orchids, said in the release. “I am proud to work for a company that cares so much about the community we live in.”
Westerlay Orchids collaborated with VG Orchids, a grower based in the Netherlands and the creator of the Gemstone line of orchids, on this donation. “We are honored that VG Orchids generously donated to our local community. Having like-minded partners in the supply chain is a large key to our continued success,” said Toine Overgaag, owner at Westerlay Orchids, in the release. “We are thrilled to be able to assist this organization [the Breast Cancer Resource Center] in its mission to help the community and those struggling with breast cancer. Our company is proud to support neighbors and friends here on the Central Coast.”
