Produce Alliance donates over $10,000 to Feeding America
Produce Alliance, a produce management, consulting and procurement company based in Chicago, launched the #PAPuckerface challenge with Limoneira to raise awareness of the 16.2 million children in the United States who struggle with hunger. Due to the success of the campaign, Produce Alliance was able to donate $10,000 to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of 200 food banks across the country.
Produce Alliance and Limoneira launched the campaign in September by combining their network of over 20,000 food industry partners to engage in the #PAPuckerface challenge. Adults and children of all ages were encouraged to participate by biting into a lemon or lime and taking a picture or video of their best “puckerface” to post to social media with the hashtag #PAPuckerface. Participants were also encouraged to make a donation to the Produce Alliance Foundation to support local and national organizations fighting childhood hunger.
As word of the campaign spread with over 2,500 social media posts and featured segments on local news stations, including KOCO 5 Oklahoma, KSN3 in Kansas City, and Fox17 Nashville, donations were received from all over the United States. The generosity of those that participated provided 110,000 meals to children in need this holiday season.
Produce Alliance also donated $500 to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and $500 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, providing over 5,000 meals to children in need.
Some of the top contributors to the Puckerface campaign included: Get Fresh Produce, Willie Itule Produce, Sirna & Sons, LaGrasso Bros., Keany Produce, Collins Bros., Downtown Produce and Central Illinois Produce.
