Vision Produce completes solar project in Phoenix
Vision Produce had a ceremonial ribbon cutting Nov. 2 for the installation of the solar power generation system at its produce distribution center in Phoenix. The system includes 1,930 solar panels and is expected to supply 59 percent of the electricity Vision Produce consumes in Phoenix every year.
Vision partnered with Wilson Electric for the execution of this program.
The event was attended by Vision Produce President Bill Vogel, Treasurer Marsela McGrane and vice presidents and building owners Robert Stauffer, John Caldwell and Dan Lawton. In addition Mark Holohan, solar division manager of Wilson Electric, and Max Burger of the Salt River Project were in attendance.
"Our customers are demanding that we be sustainable in our business ventures, and this renewable energy addition to our Phoenix facility is a giant step," Vogel said in a press release.
Over its 30-year lifetime, the system that Vision Produce installed will be the equivalent of eliminating 14.4 million pounds of CO2 emissions, according to Holohan. In addition, this system could power 23 homes and be the equivalent of taking 56 cars off the road.
During the summer months, the solar system will even produce a surplus of solar energy, which will be sold back to the Salt River Project, one of Arizona's larger utility companies.
The distribution center also includes offices for the company's Arizona sales and operational staff. Its Los Angeles main office has been operating on solar power for over five years.
