Neighbors in the Strip honors Alan Siger and Consumers Produce
Alan Siger, president and chief executive officer of Consumers Produce, will be honored Nov. 14 at the second annual Legends of the Strip event hosted by the board of directors of Neighbors in the Strip.
Mr. Siger has been central to carrying the rich history and tradition of the produce industry in the Strip District of Pittsburgh into the 21st century. Two generations ago, his grandfather sold fresh fruits and vegetables from a horse and wagon. Since that time, Mr. Siger has led Consumers Produce to a premier position in the procurement and sale of fresh produce with state-of- the-art, climate-controlled facilities and an unprecedented set of safety standards to guarantee its customers the freshest and healthiest produce possible.
He has received recognition and numerous awards for his professional accomplishments, including an appointment by the secretary of agriculture to the Fruit & Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee and Inc. magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Throughout his career, Mr. Siger has extended exceptional generosity to the community both personally and through Consumers Produce. Thousands of boxes of fruit and vegetables, as well as countless volunteer hours by the Consumers Produce family, are donated every year to western Pennsylvania charities. When produce is not enough to meet the need, Mr. Siger has been openhearted in his contribution of time and financial support.
His dedication, leadership and service to the community serve as an inspiration and model for his friends, employees and neighbors. His spirit of generosity and cooperation has been vital in developing a vision for the Strip District and in ensuring the realization of that vision.
