Giorgio’s new mushroom products drew raves at the PMA Fresh Summit
In 2005, Giorgio Fresh, headquartered in Blandon, PA, and Grupo Monteblanco, based in Mexico City, formed a partnership. The two companies are among the larger growers of fresh mushrooms in North America. The dynamic joint venture is named M.G. Alimentos and is located in Saltillo, Mexico.
At the PMA Fresh Summit in Atlanta, numerous representatives from both companies were in attendance at the Giorgio Fresh booth. Included in the group was Alfonso Cano, president of M.G. Alimentos, and Giorgio’s Peter Giorgi, chief executive officer, and Dave Carroll, president. Bill Litvin, senior vice president of sales and marketing, was also in attendance at the event. He said the company promoted two exciting new products at the Fresh Summit.

“One is our new Giorgio’s ‘Fresh Mushroom Blenders,’” said Litvin. “This is a package of mushroom pieces that can be blended with ground meat to make meals like burgers and meatloaf tastier and healthier.
“The other new product showcased at the Fresh Summit was ‘Giorgio’s Fresh Portizzas,’” continued Litvin. “These are mushrooms stuffed with authentic pizzeria-style pizza filling. They make a great snack or a meal.”
Litvin explained that the “Fresh Mushroom Blenders” provide 14-ounces of fresh mushroom pieces that are perfect to blend with ground meat for innovative and delicious twists to family favorite recipes. This product was created to help meet the soaring interest in the The Blend movement which was met with great and ongoing success since it was introduced by the Mushroom Council a couple of years ago.
“By swapping 50 percent of ground meat in favor of our ‘Fresh Mushroom Blenders,’ recipes gain more texture, flavor and they retain their juiciness,” said Litvin. “Each package also comes complete with a recipe for Blended Classic Beef Burgers, Blended Turkey Meatloaf or Blended Meatballs.”
He also pointed out that the fresh and delicious “Giorgio Fresh Portizza” is a tasty twist on two fan-favorite meals: stuffed mushrooms and pizzas.
“As expected, these two new products received a lot of excitement and praise during this year’s Fresh Summit,” said Litvin.
Giorgio mushrooms are grown using Integrated Pest Management, which significantly reduces the use of pesticides and fungicides.
