Red Sun’s organic line garnering strong and positive attention in the marketplace
Its full line of year-round supplies of U.S. Department of Agriculture-certified greenhouse-grown organics is a message that resonated strongly at the Red Sun Farms’ PMA Fresh Summit exhibition booth this year. The company is now producing organics at its facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“Like with all of our products, customers can be assured that the Red Sun Farms team has been with production from the beginning,” said Jim DiMenna, president of the Kingsville, ON-based company. “We are the only North American greenhouse grower that controls the entire growing process, from seed selection, propagation, harvest, transportation to delivery to our customers.”
He also noted that both the company’s organic and conventional line of Artisan Series greenhouse produce come with the assurance of quality, taste and safety.
“We have completely refreshed our Artisan Series look,” said DiMenna.
Red Sun Farms is proud to have been named a finalist in the 2015 PMA Fresh Summit Impact Award for Innovative Packaging for its new sustainable, organic grape tomato package. The fully compostable, recyclable and biodegradable base and top seal lidding film uses 90 percent reduction on plastic, keeping in tune with the company’s strong commitment to the environment.
DiMenna explained that Red Sun Farms’ Artisan Series has experienced overwhelming success over the past few years.
“The Artisan Series resulted from our global quest to identify, locate, source and produce some of the most unique and flavorful varieties available,” he said. “Packaged in our signature basket weave clamshell, the series has been a very strong component of our greenhouse produce offerings. Cherry tomatoes on the vine experience year over year double-digit growth. These true, one-bite cherry tomatoes have a complex flavor profile and strong, lingering finish. They have a great balance of sweetness and acidity that people really enjoy.”
The company’s Artisan Series grape tomatoes have been another home run. DiMenna explained that the company is continually asked to take over grape tomato demands by its customers due to the inconsistency in supplies and flavor of those grown in open-field production.
