Jack Van Namen retires after a lifetime of service to the floral industry
Jack Van Namen was recently honored with a lifetime achievement award and thanked for his 48 years of service to the industry at a luncheon in honor of his retirement at Kennicott/Vans in Alsip, IL, according to a news release.
Jack Van Namen was honored with a lifetime acheivement award at a luncheon marking his recent retirement after 48 years in the flroal industry. Seated are Katie Kennicott, Jack Van Namen and Carolynn Van Namen; standing are John Van Namen, Gustavo Gilchrist, Red Kennicott and Lenny Walker.Van Namen graduated from Michigan State University in 1970 with a major in horticulture and marketing; acquired a certificate in business administration from the University of Illinois; and completed an executive management course at California’s Stanford University. He also served his country in the Illinois National Guard Military Police.
After graduation and completing his active duty training, Jack joined Vans, the family business, gaining experience in operations, sales and marketing, corporate management and strategic planning. He worked in various capacities at the branch level and later moved into corporate roles. He has served as executive vice president, president and vice chairman, overseeing the $50 million company with nine locations in five states, and eventually leading the merger of Vans with Kennicott Bros. Co. in 2012.
Van Namen further served the floral industry in a number of capacities, including membership on numerous committees at the Society of American Florists, as a board member of the wholesale division, as a participant on the American Floral Marketing Council’s grades and standards committee; as a trustee at the American Floral Endowment and chairman of its marketing committee; as president at the Wholesale Florist & Florist Suppliers Association and serving on its education, trade fair and transportation committees. He also served on the boards of state and local floral associations; along with the boards of several Mexican farms and as the marketing director of Buena Vista, a farm-anchored floral marketing company.
He continues his relationship with WF&FSA as a member of the past presidents’ council.
