P.D.G. expanding cold storage
rio rico, az — This fall construction of an additional 22,000 square feet of refrigerated space is under way for P.D.G. Produce Inc. The site is across Rio Rico’s Kipper Street from the firm’s main office and warehouse. The new construction is immediately adjacent to 33,000 square feet of space that is owned by P.D.G. The firm will operate a total of 76,000 square feet when the new project is completed in mid-March.
Owner Paul Guy said, “in and out” warehousing is part of his business, which partially explains the construction. ‘There is a shortage of refrigerated warehousing here.”
P.D.G.’s primary business is being a buying broker. The firm handles all products that come into Nogales but it specializes in cucumbers, hothouse peppers and cukes, field and Roma tomatoes, as well as zucchini, watermelon and honeydew.
This October marks P.D.G.’s 30th anniversary. Guy launched the firm in Rio Rico in 1985.
