NOGALES, AZ — Two new shipping labels and a modern new location are on tap for Healthy Trends this fall, according to Bobby Astengo, a company partner who handles sales and marketing. Furthermore, Jorge Murillo joined the firm as a salesman on Oct. 5.
“We are ‘trending healthy,’ ” Astengo grinned.
Bobby AstengoThis winter Healthy Trends will move from its present Nogales location to be one of three companies to occupy Santa Cruz Cold Storage, which is currently under construction in Rio Rico. Astengo said he was invited by the principal owners, Brian and Scott Vandervoet, to be one of three companies to occupy the 26,000 square foot refrigerated warehouse.
Healthy Trends’ largest-volume, core product is wintertime Mexican green, yellow and red Bell peppers.
In December, Healthy Trends rolls out its new “Angelo’s”-brand vine-ripe Roma tomatoes. “It’s a new brand and a new box,” which was designed by Astengo.
Astengo has also developed packaging for his new squash brand, “Original Hardshell Co.” The brand will carry acorn, spaghetti and butternut squash.
“Healthy Trends” is the firm’s primary brand.
Around Oct. 12 Healthy Trends planned to begin shipping a small cucumber deal out of Caborca, Sonora. The firm’s first venture into cukes is to last until mid-December.
Healthy Trends’ other four growers are located in Sinaloa.
Due to construction timing, Healthy Trends won’t move to Rio Rico until the first week of January. “That’s a stressful time to make a move, but it’s well worth it.” Astengo is pleased by the prospect of having “Healthy Trends” posted on the new warehouse wall facing all who drive by on Interstate 19.
Astengo started Healthy Trends 18 months ago with a Mexican grower-partner. “We handled a half-million packages last year and we’re well on our way to one million this year.”
