Tricar Sales is saving money with warehouse expansion
rio rico, az — The completion in recent months of n additional 40,000 square feet of warehousing space at Tricar Sales Inc., here, is saving money for the firm, according to Rod Sbragia, director of sales and marketing.
The big addition that is part of Tricar’s Rio Rico operation involves three separate rooms. Two of these rooms are racked two-high and are temperature, humidity and ozone-controlled. The rooms, which have the latest in cold storage technology, can be chilled as low as 32 degrees.
Rod SbragiaThe firm leased in-and-out space in the spring to grape shippers “to try to produce revenue in as many months as we can,” Sbragia said.
The new warehouse comes with a new shipping office and a truckers’ lounge.
“We did this to save money,” Sbragia explained, because Tricar no longer needs to lease cold space.
Furthermore, “we could avoid taking product out of our facility at peak volume and losing control of food safety and the temperature chain. Also, it’s more efficient and we’re in the procession of finishing a conversion to solar energy.” Rooftop solar panels “should come close to filling our energy needs.”
These large investments reflect Tricar’s optimism for “the potential for continued growth in Nogales,” Sbragia went on to say. “While there are newer distribution points in McAllen, I believe that Nogales is ahead of the curve in handling dry veg volume. We have been doing this for a hundred years and they started four or five years ago.”
