Breast Cancer Awareness Month brings out the pink
Breast Cancer Awareness Month brings out the pink
For over 20 years October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and as a call to action. The United States has the highest rate of breast cancer in the world and statistically, one out of eight women born in the U.S. today will suffer from breast cancer at some point in their lives.
The pink ribbon is the international emblem for breast cancer and the color pink is widely used to raise awareness, so October is the ideal time to think pink with flowers. Flowers are one of the best ways to honor women affected by breast cancer and to show solidarity in the fight against this disease.
Some of the most popular and meaningful pink flowers for showing moral support are as follows:
• Roses. Usually associated with love and admiration, pink roses also represent gratitude and appreciation.
• Lilies. The large pink and white Stargazer blooms represent perfection and purity and, as the name implies, these flowers point toward the sky, which symbolizes hope and optimism.
• Daisies. Pink gerbera daisies have an uplifting energy and convey a message of purity and cheerfulness.
• Orchids. Delicate and refined pink cymbidium orchids convey strength with their tall stems.
• Carnations. Pink carnations are often a way to say, “I will always be there for you” and traditionally represent a mother’s love.
Flowers are a heartfelt way to show love and support to someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, to remember those we’ve lost and to help raise public awareness. October is the perfect time to do so with pink.
