Epic Produce contributes to fantasy trip
PHOENIX — Epic Produce Sales LLC, here, is going into its eighth year of supporting a Christmastime benefit for underprivileged Phoenix-area children. But the work to benefit the kids doesn’t wait until December.
A 2015 United Fantasy Flight Wine Tasting Fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 15 at My Wine Cellar and Bistro in Phoenix. Silent and live auctions will raise money for the Dec. 4 Fantasy Flight from Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix to the “North Pole.”
In the cockpit of a United Airlines Dec. 5 Fantasy Flight, bound for a 30-minute trip to the North Pole, is pilot Bob Miller, with Art Miller, the owner of Epic Produce Sales LLC. The men are friends but are not related.
Details and a Pay Pal account are on the organization’s website, unitedfantasyflight.com.
Last December, 120 children, some of them homeless, participated in the United Airlines benefit, which was started 20 years ago by United pilot Bob Miller.
In Phoenix, United Airlines buses the children to Sky Harbor. Arriving at a terminal dedicated strictly for their fantasy flight to the North Pole, passengers receive real boarding passes indicating the North Pole as the destination. After a 30-minute flight around Phoenix, the returning young guests are greeted at a Christmas party in the terminal. Santa Claus and his elves are key greeters, but other volunteers are holiday-dressed students, cheerleaders and the Arizona State University mascot, Sparky. Police, military personnel and firemen volunteer for the fantasy, as well as Ronald McDonald and mascots from local professional sports teams. Children receive a holiday meal and gifts.
Art Miller, owner of Epic Produce Sales, is a personal friend of Bob Miller, though the two are not related. Art Miller is not only a fundraiser for the Fantasy Flight but he contributes fruit to the flight’s party.
