Lipman sponsoring biker in second annual Tour de Fresh
Lipman, a leading North American field tomato grower, is sponsoring bike rider Jennifer Sanders in the second annual Tour de Fresh, which will be held Oct. 19-22.
The 2015 Tour de Fresh is an approximately 325-mile, four-day bike ride, presented by the California Giant Foundation. Riders will navigate the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee before ending in Atlanta.
The goal of this year’s ride is to raise enough donations to install more than 100 salad bars in schools across the United States through the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools campaign. Sanders plans to raise $5,000 for Alexander Valley School in California.
“We chose to sponsor a rider this year because we strongly believe all children should have access to healthy foods,” Glenn Davis, director or western operations for Lipman, said in a press release. “Incorporating salad bars into schools encourages students to make healthy meal choices. Getting behind this concept and helping Jennifer achieve her goal was a natural fit for our company.”
Sanders has been road and mountain biking for more than 20 years. She’s placed in downhill and cross-country races, as well as Xterra triathlons. In addition, Sanders is a practicing attorney and coaches the Redwood High School Mountain bike racing team in Northern California.
Last year, Tour de Fresh raised more than $142,000 and placed more than 40 salad bars in communities in 11 states.
