Habelman Bros. expecting excellent quality Wisconsin cranberries
Habelman Bros. Co. in Tomah, WI, a fresh cranberry grower-shipper-packer, is expecting a strong season with excellent quality fruit.
“A big season is ahead,” said Bob Wilson, managing member of The Cranberry Network LLC, headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, which is the marketing agency for Habelman.
Wisconsin’s nights were beginning to cool off to nighttime lows in the low 60s when Wilson spoke to The Produce News in late August. The cooler weather was expected to boost color and berry size in the four to six weeks before harvest.

“The crop is solid,” Wilson said. “We anticipate excellent quality and another great year.”
The August national cranberry production estimate indicated that “a solid crop is expected in all key regions” that grow cranberries.
Wilson said Habelman has been “spending tremendous amounts of money, investing to have absolute maximum quality in the bag. I am so thrilled Habelman is deeply committed to making sure the quality is superior to anyone else. They have the latest technology in their packing facility and new investments” in production. The firm is growing “tried and true” cranberry varieties, as well as newer varieties.
The firm will be announcing new plans to add value to Habelman berries, catch consumers’ eyes and draw million to the fresh cranberry category. This includes training millennials to prepare their own fresh cranberry sauce.
