Promotions, packaging jazz up California Giant winter berries program
California Giant Berry Farms is gearing up for movement of its imported berries. “We will begin importing blueberries in the next month from Argentina, then from Chile,” said Vice President of Marketing Cindy Jewell. “We will also be importing strawberries and blackberries during the winter months. I am not aware of any adverse weather. We look forward to great quality and sizing from these districts as they come into production and have several varieties planted.”

The company will launch several new promotions to support its fall and winter berry program. “During the month of October, we will be featuring several recipes and an e-book highlighting ‘scary berries’ to celebrate Halloween,” Jewell told The Produce News. “We also will be supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month with pink labels on our clamshell packaging. During November through December, we will feature a new set of recipes and electronic e-book featuring ‘Just drizzle it’ inspirations using our blueberries, blackberries and strawberries in different types of usages [such as] sauces, dips and marinades.”
New clamshell labels, to be launched this winter, have also been created for California Giant’s berries.
“The new labels will actually include four-color photography of recipes on the front of the label, and the recipe will be listed on the back,” she went on to say. “We are also including our social medial callouts for consumers to follow. We are making this shift so we can speak directly to the consumer right in the produce department with recipe ideas, providing one more compelling reason to put our berries in the shopping cart.”
